Spoleto is a beautiful town in southern Umbria sandwiched between the verdant Valnerina, Monteluco and the Umbrian plain. Over the centuries and up to the unification of Italy it was a very important city, the capital of a Lombard kingdom first and the seat of a papal delegation later and the cultural center of central-southern Italy from the Renaissance onwards.
The glorious past of Spoleto has left so many traces of its presence to embellish the historic center with wonderful surprises: Hermann Hesse, writing a postcard to his wife, said of her: “Spoleto is the most beautiful discovery I have made in Italy”, “there is such a wealth of almost unknown beauties, of mountains, valleys, oak forests, convents, waterfalls!”
With this private tour you will be able to discover the beauties of the city such as La Rocca Albornoziana, with its enormous bulk and raised above the city walls it is the symbol of Spoleto. The Monastery of San Ponziano, patron saint of Spoleto, and the oil tower, from the 13th century. Lots of palaces to admire and incredible squares that will make you take a dip in the past.
